Research Volunteers

Do you suffer from Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) or depression? Would you like to participate in some research? If so, we would like to hear from you. There is still much to be learnt about BDD to assist in the development of new treatments.

We are conducting the following research projects:

1) Effect of mirror gazing in individuals with BDD. This study is for people suffering from either BDD or depression without BDD. The purpose of this study is to see whether the time spent looking into the mirror and the distance from the mirror make a difference to how people think about their appearance. This research will hopefully help to improve the knowledge we have of BDD and the treatments that are currently being provided. It involves coming to the Institute of Psychiatry at Denmark Hill, South London orthe The Priory Hospital North London, filling in some questionnaires and looking at yourself in a mirror for a short while. She would welcome approach from any interested individuals. By replying, you do not commit yourself to taking part in her research. She will simply provide further information about the project and then give you the opportunity to discuss this before you participate. All information given will be kept strictly confidential. Your assistance will be greatly appreciated! This study has received full ethical approval.
